The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, He is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; and He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic* Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Affirmation of Faith

Deuteronomy 10:1-22, pg. 144

Westminster Larger Catechism (#96-98)

M: What particular use is there of the moral law to unregenerate people?

P: The moral law is of use to unregenerate people to awaken their consciences to flee from wrath to come and to drive them to Christ. Alternatively, if they continue in their state and way of sin, it leaves them inexcusable and under the curse of the law.

M: What particular use is there of the moral law to regenerate people?

P: Although those who are regenerate and believe in Christ are delivered from the moral law as a covenant of works, so that they are neither justified nor condemned by it, yet besides the general uses of the law common to them with all people, it is of special use to show them how much they are bound to Christ for His fulfilling it and His enduring the curse of it in their place and for their good. By this they are provoked to more thankfulness and to express it in their greater care to conform themselves to the moral law as the rule of their obedience.

M: Where is the moral law given in summary form?

P: The moral law is given in summary form in the Ten Commandments, which were delivered by the voice of God on Mount Sinai and written by Him in two tables of stone. They are recorded in the twentieth chapter of Exodus. The four first commandments contain our duty to God, and the other six our duty to mankind.

Unison: Most Holy and merciful Father, we acknowledge and confess before You our sinful nature, prone to evil and slothful in good, and all our shortcomings and offenses. You alone know how often we have sinned: in wandering from Your ways, in wasting Your gifts, in forgetting Your love. O Lord, have mercy upon us, those who are ashamed and sorry for all that we have done to displease You. Teach us to hate our errors; cleanse us from our secret faults; and forgive our sins, for the sake of Your dear Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Assurance of Pardon

Minister: Wash yourselves and become clean; remove the evil of your actions from My sight; stop doing wrong, and learn to do what is right. Let the wicked abandon their ways, and the unrighteous their thoughts, and let them return to the Lord, for He will have mercy on them; and to our God, for He will generously pardon. Amen.
